Responsible Quantum Technologies Workshop

NQCC will be participating in the Responsible Quantum Technologies Workshop to be held in Karlsruhe, Germany from April 16th to 18th, 2024. This event will provide an opportunity to explore the significant advancements made in quantum technologies over the past two decades, representing the progression of the second quantum revolution.

Participation by Dr Natasha Oughton, NQCC

Dr Natasha Oughton is the Quantum Computing Policy and Ethics Lead at the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre. Her work focuses on responsible and ethical quantum computing (REQC), and spans carrying out research into societal, ethical and policy implications, developing internal practices and guidance, and enabling stakeholders on REQC across the UK and global quantum computing landscape, including industry, policymakers, and researchers. She has an interdisciplinary background in both philosophy and physics, with a focus on quantum foundations, and wrote her PhD thesis on understanding quantum theory through information-theoretic reconstructions at the University of Oxford.

(times in CET)

Session 1: Responsible QT Efforts, 10:40-11:40 Tuesday 16th April

Talk title: Responsible and Ethical Quantum Computing at the UK’s NQCC

Session 2: New Ways to Teach and Think “Quantum”, 14:30-15:30 Tuesday 16th April (Session chair)

Discussions will focus on the responsibility of quantum technologies as a significant emerging area for technology assessment studies. This serves as a crucial step in connecting the quantum technology and technology assessment communities, establishing relationships to responsibly navigate the complexity and impact of quantum technologies.
