NQCC’s annual snapshot of the UK quantum computing landscape

The National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) has published an update to its annual Baseline Report, which analyses the quantum computing landscape in the UK.

Quantum computing is evolving rapidly. So, how has the landscape changed, especially since the formation of NQCC? How does the UK compare internationally? And where are the emerging strengths, opportunities and risks?

This report provides an evidence-based snapshot to help answer these questions, building on the baseline analysis that NQCC started in 2022.

The 2025 update shows that quantum computing continues to be a rapidly expanding field of research, with strong growth in publications and high citation impact. While global competition is increasing, the UK remains a leading contributor.

With annual updates, NQCC hopes to provide a consistent view of how the landscape is evolving over time and helping us understand the impact of our work within the ecosystem.
