Quantum Instrumentation & Control with RFSoC & PYNQ

NQCC is supporting this four-day, hands-on training course delivered by StrathSDR at the University of Strathclyde in collaboration with Durham Quantum Light and Matter (QLM). Designed for researchers and engineers working in quantum technologies, the course provides practical experience in developing RFSoC-based instrumentation for quantum experiments.

Location: University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK

The course combines introductory lectures with practical workshops. The first day introduces quantum control concepts and the use of RFSoC technology for quantum applications, while the remaining three days focus on hands-on development using the PYNQ framework and RFSoC system implementation.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of agile RF technology in qubit control and readout.
  • Explain the fundamentals of FPGA and System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture.
  • Design, integrate, and test custom FPGA IP cores.
  • Control and interface with FPGA hardware using Python through the PYNQ framework.
  • Understand RFSoC architecture and high-speed RF data converters.
  • Apply the RFSoC design workflow to develop signal generation, acquisition, and control systems.
  • Develop, customise, and extend RFSoC-based quantum instrumentation for research applications.
