NQCC will be represented at the Nobel Symposium in Physics—Quantum Computing by Gerard Milburn, NQCC’s Quantum Fellow. The symposium will take place from 25–30 October 2026 at the STIAS Wallenberg Research Centre in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Bringing together leading researchers in quantum information science, condensed matter physics, computer science and engineering, the symposium will assess the current state and future potential of quantum computing. Discussions will explore which problems quantum computers can realistically solve, how scalable and fault-tolerant architectures might be achieved, and how quantum principles could reshape modelling, simulation and our understanding of computation.
Organised through the Nobel in Africa initiative, the event is a partnership between STIAS and Stellenbosch University, held under the auspices of the Nobel Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
