NQCC will be participating in the Foundations of Quantum Technologies conference, with Gerard Milburn, Quantum Fellow at NQCC, representing the organisation as an invited speaker. Hosted by Girton College, the conference will commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of modern quantum mechanics.
Date:15–18 September 2026
Location: Emily Davies Court, Girton College, University of Cambridge
Bringing together researchers from academia and industry, the event will explore the fundamental physical principles underpinning emerging quantum information-processing technologies. Its programme will connect research in quantum foundations and information theory with experimental advances and technological implementation.
Key topics will include;
- Foundations of Quantum Theory
- Witnesses, Measures and Monotones of Nonclassical Behaviour
- Non-Classical Resources (Coherence, Contextuality, Entanglement, Negativity)
- Quantum Measurement Theory and Back-Action
- Quantum Thermodynamics
- Decoherence and Open Quantum Systems
- Quantum Control and Hamiltonian Engineering
- Quantum Algorithms and Computational Models
- Quantum Metrology and Sensing
- Quantum-Processor Design and Architectures
Gerard will join an international group of invited speakers from leading universities, research organisations and quantum technology companies. Join us for this four-day conference to exchange ideas, explore the latest developments across the field and strengthen connections between foundational research and the practical realisation of quantum technologies.
